Le Cantique des oiseaux (The Canticle of the Birds) is a choral installation in which Katia Kameli proposes a variation, composed of musical ceramics, watercolours and a film, on the famous text of the same name by the Persian poet Farîd-ud-Dîn ‘Attâr. This emblematic Sufi story describes the initiatory journey of birds, led by a hoopoe, the symbol of wisdom, to discover the incarnation of the divine, named Sîmorgh.

For this performance, the sandstone bird-instruments, created in collaboration with ceramist Marie Picard, will be activated during a wandering performance in the Villa Sauber. This will be followed by a screening of Cantique des oiseaux, a variation created in 2023, and a meeting with the artist.

The work of Katia Kameli, a Franco-Algerian artist and film-maker, is based on a research approach: historical and cultural facts fuel the multiple forms of her plastic and poetic imagination. She sees herself as a ‘translator’, highlighting a global history made up of porous borders and reciprocal influences to open up a reflective path that generates a critical view of the world. His work is on show at the Centre Pompidou until 10 March, echoing the work of Pierre Bourdieu and his images of Algeria in the exhibition Penser par l’expérience photographique. A solo exhibition will also be on show this summer at the Chateauvert art centre (Var, France).
