On the occasion of the “Pier Paolo Calzolari – Casa ideale” exhibition at the Villa Paloma- Nouveau Musée National de Monaco until April 7, Andrea Viliani, author of numerous texts on Arte Povera, talks to artist Pier Paolo Calzolari.

Pier Paolo Calzolari is known for the formal originality of a multidisciplinary practice (painting, sculpture, but also performances understood as “acts of passion”) that often resorts to the use of organic materials such as tobacco leaves, fire or frost to create “installation-works” that question the limits of contemporary art.

Andrea Viliani is a critic, curator and art historian. His research focuses on the analysis of institutional, alternative and interdisciplinary structures, as well as a systematic rereading of twentieth-century Italian art historiography, starting with Arte Povera. Since 2022, he has been Director of the Museum of Civilization in Rome.
