Workshop at Lycée François d'Assise Nicolas Barré Workshop at Lycée François d'Assise Nicolas Barré

For the first year the NMNM initiates an artist’s residency in two schools of the Principality, Charles III and François d’Assise Nicolas Barré. Continuing on the theme of the collection, the students will be invited to reflect on what it means to collect artworks and how this can be articulated within the artistic practice. Primarily the artist Oriol Vilanova will intervene between January and June in two secondary classes for a session of 5 workshops.

The week of 28th January

The week of 4th March

The week of 1st April and the week of 13th May
The artist and the students will finalize the project.

The week of 3rd June
Project restitution in the form of an exhibition, an edition or any form enabling public restitution.

Oriol Vilanova (born 1980, lives and works in Brussels) questions the paradoxes inherent in mass culture, an obsession which prompted him to collect numerous postcards which he rummages for in antique markets. Vilanova is equally interested in certain characters, images and ideas stemming from the twentieth century which although long gone, appear monstrous and even comical. The artist’s conceptual approach takes on a written form based on the repetition and the exaggeration of minimal installations or performances. This approach invests, nonetheless, a literary and fictional dimension seizing upon themes such as immortality, relationships between time, memory and history or heroism.
